FloraFarm Ginseng cultivation: the story and the people behind it
Since the beginning of the 80s, the original history of ginseng cultivation has been rewritten. Until then, ginseng was known not to be cultivable in Europe, but FloraFarm proved the opposite in our ginseng gardens.
Heinrich Wischmann, farmer from the Lüneburg Heath, read about ginseng in the newspaper. The Asian medicinal plant, whose roots were formerly outweighed in gold and was considered the imperial drug. From then on, his goal was to establish the cultivation of the medicinal plant, also known as "man-like root", on his so far traditional farm in Lower Saxony. It took ten years, marked by failures and new beginnings, until the first noteworthy yields were achieved.
More than 35 years of experience
Today we can look back on more than 35 years of successful ginseng cultivation and marketing. In the FloraFarm ginseng gardens, we cultivate more than 9 hectares of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer). In Germany, only this is approved for use in medicine. The ginseng roots mature to TOP drug quality and are distributed in the form of root pieces, capsules, cosmetics and stimulants directly from ginseng shop on the farm or through our online shop.
The ever-growing number of visitors wishing to visit this unique location in Europe has led to an expanded offer over the years. So the guided tours through the Ginseng Gardens, the Ginseng Café with sun terrace and the special events are popular places to go for more than 50,000 guests annually from near and far.
Cultivation, marketing, visitor groups - even today everything is in family hands. The processing of ginseng to high-quality products also takes place in Germany. Quality is and remains our top priority!
And so it is good to see that the following generations are also involved - here is a photo from the harvest:
