In the early 1980s, Heinrich Wischmann, a farmer from Lower Saxony, started to seriously consider the future of his traditionally run farm. He became aware of ginseng while reading a newspaper article: "Ginseng, an Asian healing plant whose roots were once measured in terms of gold."

His daughter Gesine Wischmann, together with her husband, founded the smallest pharmaceutical company in Germany, FloraFarm, through which the ginseng products were to be marketed.
The increasing number of interested visitors soon resulted in the establishment of an extended range of tours through the ginseng gardens and the opening of the Ginseng Café.
